Acupuncture is a way of healing that has been practised in the east for thousands of years. Countries like China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam all use Acupuncture extensively.
Acupuncture is a branch of Oriental medicine that looks at the whole person through their spiritual, mental and physical wellness.

Points to help insomnia

Acupuncture's aims are to improve the overall condition of the patient and not just a specific symptom. One may find that during a course of treatment for one illness, the patient will feel a benefit in other areas as the person becomes more balanced. This is where acupuncture's role as a preventative medicine takes place.

Acupuncturists work directly with the body's Qi (pronounced "Chee"). Qi is energy. It moves through the body in channels called Meridians. Qi should flow through the body smoothly; through the arms, legs, body and head. If there is an imbalance (weakness or stagnation/blockage) in this flow, this can lead to illness or pain.

Disturbances in the Meridians can be caused by any one factor, or a combination of many. This can happen at one event, such as an accident (which may have an immediate and obvious affect on the body), or be accumulative over many years; like RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury). The causes of illness need not be purely physical, they can be emotional too; stress, grief, anger, frustration or fear.

Diet and the environment also play a big part in how a person may feel. Being "in-tune" with the seasons through appropriate treatment, diet and exercise can help to prevent season related symptoms like Hay fever or S.A.D (Seasonal Affective Disorder).

Moxa burning on needles

Moxibustion

Moxa is an herb that is burned and used to heat up acupoints. It has medicinal qualities, which enable heat to penetrate deeply and be retained by the body. Chinese moxa is usually found in rolls or can be used loose. It is used to encourage the flow of energy to areas where required and energise the body.

Cupping

Specially made glass cups can be used to have a therapeutic effect upon the body.  Like moxa, cups can be used alone or in combination with acupuncture. A vacuum is created inside the cup, which is then placed on the skin above acupoints.

Cups are a very safe form of treatment for children and adults. They are left on the patient between 5-20 minutes depending upon the location and/or complaint.

Facial Rejuvination Acupuncture

Acupoints on head & faceAlso known as Cosmetic Acupuncture, Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture’s (FRA) intention is to delay the signs of aging. By treating areas on the face and also by treating the underlying causes of a person’s particular manifestations of aging, the treatment seeks to nourish the patient both inside and out.

FRA works by mobilising blood and lymph around the body, in particular the face.  This helps to improve muscle tone, tightening of the skin, collagen production and blood circulation to the face to improve the complexion in the head and neck area.

FRA can make a difference to deep wrinkles, and bags under the eyes, sagging, puffiness, drooping eyelids, double chin, large pores, fine lines, dry skin and acne.

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is contraindicated for some pituitary disorders, heart disorders, diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, individuals who have a pacemaker or who have a problem with bleeding or bruising, or who currently suffer from migraine headaches. Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture should not be done during pregnancy, during a bout with a cold or flu, during an allergic attack or during an acute herpes outbreak.
