Qi Gong can be translated as energy work. The aim is to strengthen the mind, body and spirit. Through correct and continual practice, practitioners feel and experience Qi (energy), have an abundance of energy throughout the day, have a focused and relaxed mind all together with a sense of being more grounded.
Wujiquan ("Wuji" translates as great void or emptiness, "quan" means fist) is a form of Qi Gong that was taught by Buddhist monks in the Southern Shaolin temples. It is an internal and soft style of Qi Gong, which means that it is beneficial for building Qi, building internal power and that it is usually practised with slow, low-impact movements, similar to Taijiquan (Tai Chi/Tai Chi Chuan/Tai Ji) . Occasionally, martial applications of the movements will be shown in class where appropriate, to help understand how and why postures are done.
Qi Gong can benefit people in all walks of life: Athletes, Yoga/Pilates practitioners and Martial Artists wanting to learn another art to compliment their own, manual labourers, office workers, teachers, mothers, fathers, therapists who want to learn a method of de-stressing and relaxation, pensioners and anybody who would like to take part in exercise, without having to be in a loud and fast environment. Basically everybody!
The overall atmosphere of the classes are friendly and relaxed. The teaching places emphasis on detailed depth of information and making previously untaught principles and so called secrets, open to anyone who has the patience to learn them.
Buddhism is not taught in the classes and Qi Gong is suitable for people of all religions, abilities and ages.
